520 |a Globalization stands as the insurmountable political and intellectual horizon of our age. Yet debates about the contours of this horizon have become polarized around neoliberalism's uncritical exaltation of the transnational flow of capital, commodities and labour, and the radical Left's indiscriminate condemnation of the same phenomenon. Too often the result has been as sterile opposition between 'pro' and 'anti' globalization camps. However given the suspect legacy of the radical Left and the increasingly apparent failures of neoliberalism, an attempt to examine what globalization represents today and what potential it might hold for the future from the fresh perspective of critical social and political theory is called for. In Confronting Globlization the contributors discuss the theoretical, practical and cultural implications of globalization. They analyse the complex dynamics of globalization, the challenges that confront democracy, governance and rights under globaliztion, and new approaches that seek to context the excesses of globalization and promote the struggle for global justice.
