520 |a This book is about South-North, North-South relations between Africa and Europe, seen through the prism of musicians from North Africa and Madagascar: a decidedly 'bottom-up' view, which privileges the voices of people 'on the move'.€The book€presents the personal narratives of musicians in different locations across Africa and Europe, and those of the people who constitute their networks within the wider artistic, cultural, and civil society milieus of global or globalizing societies.€The authors€suggest that artists who create or enter such networks follow a different logic of translocal and transnational links than is normally associated with diaspora and migration research on music. Of particular significance in€the study is a new perspective on migration which not only focuses on transnational migrants who left their country of origin, but foregrounds an analysis of migration within so-called 'sending' countries - a process which often motivates the first steps towards transnational migration.
