Description
Summary:In this country, the elderly population fits right in with other oppressed groups we have studied. Even though we all hope to join this group, we tend to subject its members to attitudes that may reflect damaging biases and stereotypes. Addictions counselors need accurate information about this population because we can expect to see more and more seniors in treatment. The guest lecturers for this class have special expertise in this area. Both Clayton Rivers and Jacque Rhodes have combined clinical experience with solid research. They address the topic in two parts. First, Dr. Rivers provides a review of what is known about alcohol and the elderly up to this point. Then Jacque Rhodes shares the results of her newly-completed study.
