Item Description: | Calculated by John Tobler. All the calculations are identical throughout with those in his Pennsylvania town and country-man's almanack for 1768 (Wilmington), except that those for the sun are merged in one column. The astronomical notes on the calendar pages are also duplicated, with omissions and a few additions. Though the Tobler almanacs issued after his death in 1765 have been attributed to his son John, the publisher's preface to the South Carolina and Georgia almanack for 1765 (Savannah) states that Tobler's calculations had then been completed up to 1800. The later almanacs contain no indication that Tobler junior is the author. Advertised in the Pennsylvania gazette, Philadelphia, Oct. 1, 1767. The frontispiece, with "1768" inserted, is that published in the 1760 issue, with the initials J.T. (James Turner) Reproduction of original from Boston Public Library. |
