Description
Summary:This publication provides details of development funds and additional student numbers allocated to support the introduction of foundation degrees in the 2001-2002 academic year. The policy aims of foundation degrees are to address shortages of intermediate level skills in the national and regional economies and to enhance the employability of students. Foundation degrees are also designed to widen participation in higher education and to contribute to lifelong learning. Higher education institutions were invited to bid for funds to develop and deliver prototype foundation degree programs. This report contains summaries of the 40 prototype foundation degree programs and sources of further information. In November 2000, the Higher Education Funding Council for England allocated 5,186, 805 British pounds for development funds and 2,123 additional student numbers for foundation degree programs. The first appendix lists members of the Foundation Degree Assessment Panel, and the second appendix contains the prototype summaries. The third appendix lists the acceptances of the foundation degree programs. (SLD)
