| Summary: | This handbook seeks to provide a practical, readable guide to teaching writing across a broad range of ages and grade levels (K-8). The handbook's seven chapters cover each stage of the writing process in detail, from setting a purpose for writing to drafting, revising, editing, and producing a "finished" product. Its goal is to provide a comprehensive overview of writing development and best practices in teaching, illustrated with examples of student work. Chapters in the book are: (1) Essentials of the Writing Workshop; (2) The Foundations of Writing and Spelling in Young Children; (3) Beginning to Write; (4) Revision: Clarifying Meaning; (5) Editing: The Final Shaping; (6) Publishing, Sharing, and Celebrating; and (7) The Special Demands of Nonfiction Writing. Each chapter includes references.
