Summary: | This SPEC (Systems and Procedures Exchange Center) Kit presents the results of a survey of Association of Research Libraries (ARL) member libraries designed to explore to what extent preservation activities have been integrated into research library operations by examining the many facets of mature preservation programs and determining how much activity takes place within, and how much outside, the purview of preservation departments. Representative documents include: (1) preservation program descriptions from Brown University (Rhode Island), University of California-San Diego, Cornell University (New York), University of Kansas, University of Kentucky, the Library of Congress, University of Maryland, and Pennsylvania State University; (2) preservation policy and procedure guidelines from the University of Buffalo (New York), University of California-San Diego, Cornell University, University of Kansas, University of Maryland, Pennsylvania State University, University of Texas at Austin, University of Utah, University of California-Irvine, McMaster University (Ontario), and University of Utah; and (3) staff and user education documents from the University of California-San Diego, Case Western Reserve University (Ohio), and University of Kansas. An annotated list of selected resources, including 25 books and journal articles and 17 Web sites, is included. (MES) |
