Summary:This guide chronicles the ongoing work and writings of the Chapin Hall Center for Children, a policy research center dedicated to bringing sound information, rigorous analyses, innovative ideas, and an independent multidisciplinary perspective to bear on policies and programs affecting children. The guide includes listings of projects and publications, categorized by each of the Center's major research areas. Each category is preceded by an overview of the issues and research in that area. The first section, "Children's Services," details government systems and programs that address severe threats to the lives and well being of children. The second section, "Primary Supports for Child and Youth Development," details efforts to promotes children's development into productive caring adults, and focuses on the operational and administrative concerns of primary support providers. The third section, "Community Building," includes projects that examine particular community-building initiatives and those that look across initiatives. The fourth section, "Schools' Connections with Children's Services, Primary Supports, and Communities," focuses on the formal connections formed between schools and other organizations. The fifth section, "International Projects," provides a worldwide dimension and details a cross-national development of measures of child well-being in 20 nations. The final section, "Special Projects and Consultations," details projects that cut across subjects or activities within the center's research agenda. (Author/SD)
