Description
Summary:The course of study for students in lower secondary schools in Japan is outlined in this document. The first of four chapters puts forth the general provisions that Japanese lower secondary schools should seek to follow. Comprising the greater part of the volume, the second chapter outlines the objectives to be achieved by students in nine subject areas. For each of the nine subjects (Japanese language, social studies, mathematics, science, music, fine arts, health and physical education, industrial arts and homemaking, and foreign languages), an overall objective is listed followed by specific objectives and contents. For some subjects, the objectives and contents are organized by grade level--first, second, and third (of the lower secondary school). With other subjects, such as social studies and science, the specific objectives and contents are organized by field; for example, social studies standards are organized by geography, history, and civics. The third chapter puts forth the objectives and content for the class on moral education. The fourth chapter focuses on special activities, listing objectives to be achieved in pupil activities, school events, and classroom guidance. An extract from the enforcement regulations of the school education law is included in an annex. (DB)
