Description
Summary:This report presents the results of a survey of voluntary financial support provided to higher education institutions and private elementary and secondary schools in the United States. It is based on a survey of 1,168 colleges and universities and 423 private elementary and secondary schools for the fiscal year ending June 30, 1994. The study found that voluntary support for higher education climbed 7.6 percent between 1993 and 1994, to $12.35 billion. Support for current operations increased 3.9 percent and support for capital purposes increased 12.3 percent between 1993 and 1994, adjusted for inflation. Contributions by alumni, nonalumni individuals, and foundations increased 11.7, 8.0, and 12.7 percent, respectively, adjusted for inflation. Voluntary support for private elementary and secondary schools also increased between 1993 and 1994. The bulk of the report consists of tables that present institutional data on total voluntary financial support, voluntary support for current operations, sources of voluntary support, planned gifts, alumni gifts, gifts of property, corporation matching gifts, total expenditures, and enrollment.
