| Summary: | A program was designed at Miami-Dade Community College (South Campus) to meet the educational needs and interests of single parents/displaced homemakers by providing recruitment, counseling, financial aid referrals, job placement referrals, and career selection assistance. Nontraditional vocational and occupational programs were emphasized. During the second phase, 60 students were recruited; they then underwent a referral process according to their individual needs. Assistance was also provided in finding these types of services: financial assistance, medical assistance, and child care. An overall orientation helped restructure students' vocational patterns in order to enhance their academic perspectives. Students were advised by the director; sent to CHOICES, a computer career assessment service; or started their programs immediately. Some students were placed in employment without finishing their educational programs. Retention activities and child care services could not be accomplished.
