| 520 | |a As an update and continuation of a report covering the period 1979-1985, this report contains data collected from November 1986 through January 1987 on the destinations of June 1986 graduates of the Rochester (New York) City Schools. A single postcard mailing was followed by intensive efforts to reach the 400 randomly-sampled high school graduates by telephone. There were 326 respondents; 280 of these had complete data from June and December. The broad categories of college (33.75%) and employment (32%) were approximately equal. Occupational training/apprenticeship--a new category--was 2.25%; military service increased to 7.25%; and the category for other, including unemployed, held steady at 6.25%. An optional question about whether the school system had adequately prepared the graduate for the chosen destination was answered by only 166 graduates; 135 of whom indicated "Yes," and 31 indicated "No." Only about two-thirds of 238 students with data available from a December questionnaire had correctly predicted their destinations. A chart of graduate destinations is appended. Eleven pie graphs present graduate destinations overall for 10 different schools. Twelve data tables give the predicted versus actual destinations and show survey return rates and college destinations. (SLD) | ||
