Summary: | This scope and sequence document for Oregon schools' social studies curriculum adopts the National Council for the Social Studies (NCSS) Task Force on Scope and Sequence publication as a guideline and is organized by kindergarten through eighth grades and by the required high school courses of U.S. history, economics, government, and global studies. Each grade level or course description contains a scope statement providing the recommended subject matter and a statement of common knowledge (cognitive outcomes) presented as primary and secondary considerations that include political, economic, social, and geographic understandings. The report also includes a slightly modified NCSS Task Force skills statement. The appendices contain: (1) a list of contributors; (2) a list of verbs and their cognitive levels for the common knowledge statements; and (3) a statement about elective courses. (DJC) |
