Description
Summary:Written in response to pressure for British colleges and local education authorities (LEAs) to be more businesslike, this document consists almost entirely of a working manual or guide (the Educational Audit Reference Inventory) and instructions for how managers can use it to carry out effective performance evaluation of any element of their educational program, from a course to an entire college. The inventory is a set of four audit questionnaires (lead sheet, continuation sheet, action plan, and summary sheet) that can help managers custom design similar instruments more appropriate for their own audits. The guide suggests audit questions to be asked about the following four topic areas that form a framework for evaluation: purpose, management, resources, and outcomes. Evidence, or performance indicators, that the guide suggests should be accepted in answer to each audit question are also given. Advice is given on how to report the evaluation results, and an example of a completed Educational Audit Reference Inventory is provided. The methodology of the project that produced the guide is also explained. (CML)
