Summary:Surveys were made of the salaries, benefits, and working conditions of child care professionals in Lake, Marin, Mendocino, Napa, and Sonoma Counties. The centers sampled operated under a variety of auspices. Centers included nonprofit (without subsidized child care spaces), proprietary, public, and subsidized organizations. The survey instrument sought information on staff positions, demographics, compensation, benefits, and staff turnover. Findings of each study are discussed and recommendations for action are offered.
