Summary:The University of Liverpool's Evaluation and Assessment Unit (LEAU) organized a national conference on the growth, development, and potential of the National Curriculum. The National Curriculum consists of 10 subjects, each defined by attainment targets, programs of study, and attainment levels. These subjects are to be drawn up by working groups set up by the Secretary of State and are subject to consultation by the National Curriculum Council (NCC). The National Curriculum is to be introduced over a number of years, beginning in September 1989. Contributors at the conference discussed the principles of the National Curriculum, its programs of study, assessment issues, and training implications. Seven conference papers. The papers are: (1) "An N.C.C. View" (P. Watkins); (2) "A View from S.E.A.C." (H. Steedman); (3) "Assessment and the Curriculum" (P. Black); (4) "Views on Assessment at Age 7" (W. Harlen); (5) "'INSET, Professional Development and a Shared Value System'" (K.
