| Summary: | The state of Indiana mandated a Beginning Teacher Assistantship and Professional Development Plan. Training for 63 mentor teacher educators was conducted at 4 locations in 4 days in August 1989. A 2-hour videotape was produced using the original training sessions for training or reinforcement of training. The advisory committee developed a professional development form and documents that pertained to the beginning teacher and the mentor. Three handbooks that addressed the Occupational Specialist Certificate I, II, and III (OS I, II, and III) were developed in addition to a Vocational Administrator's Guide. Numerous forms to facilitate the operation of the Beginning Teacher Assistantship and Professional Development Plan were also developed and distributed. A videotape on questions and answers about the plan was made. Recommendations were made for research on mentoring; development of more detailed requirements for fulfilling the professional development plan; reevaluation of renewal requirements under the OS I, II, and III; an annual mentor workshop; and maintenance of the beginning teacher assistantship in Indiana. (Appendixes include three reports: an evaluation and cost analysis of the project; the project's final evaluative report; and a report on Indiana's Vocational Teacher Induction Program.) (YLB) |
