Introductory materials include definitions of the gifted, a review of vocational education literature concerning gifted and talented students, and procedures for identifying gifted and talented students. Guidelines are provided both for the vocational teacher to use in preparation for meeting the needs of a gifted and talented student and for the program itself. Four curriculum/instructional approaches that can be used to provide programs for the gifted and talented students are then described: ability grouping, acceleration/individualization, enrichment, and differentiated instruction. A listing of methods and techniques of instruction that may be used in developing the curricular program provides a description and an application illustration for each one. An illustration of how vocational education programs, grades 11-14, could be modified for the gifted and talented student is followed by a list of suggested activities to provide awareness of vocational education opportunities. A brief handbook (part of the document) for a gifted/talented program in vocational education provides program goals, guiding principles for program development, possible problems, and grass roots considerations. A resource section lists organizations and publications. (YLB)
