Questions are presented by members of an opening panel (Brenda Bankart, Louise Bernikow, Deborah Hilty, and Doris Friedensohn) based on the personal experiences and work of individual panelists. The keynote address, "Toward a Feminist Transformation of the Academy: The Search for Wholeness, Again" (Elaine Reuben), precedes 10 selected papers. The first paper is entitled "Lucille Clifton: Black Feminist Poet" (Valerie Lee). The second paper, "'Phantasia for Elvira Shatayev' as Revolutionary Feminist Poem" (Marianne Whelchel), defines qualities in the poem by Adrienne Rich that make it not only a political poem but also a revolutionary feminist poem. The next two papers, "Role Conflict for Women in Positions of Authority" (Elaine Martin) and "Women and Work: The Managerial Impasse" (Robin L. Bartlett and Charles Poulton-Callahan) deal with barriers facing women at the managerial level. Other papers include "The Call for Feminist Theory: Will We Recognize the Answer?" (Joan Straumanis), "Questions and Reflections on Science for Women" (Joan Cadden), "Subject Access to Works on Women" (Margaret L. Rogal), "Government Publications for Women's Studies Research: An Introduction" (Eileen McGrath), "Archives and Women's History Research" (Marlene Merrill), and "Three Decades of Reminiscences About Women in the Academy" (Thalia Gouma-Peterson). A final presentation from the closing panel, "The Women's Studies Connection--Where Are We in a Wider Context?" (Eva Hooker) and a schedule of conference events conclude the document. (LH)
