Description
Summary:Focusing on educational resources, this report describes part two of the Curriculum Branch's audit of the programs of studies, guides, textbooks, and resources of Alberta, Canada, which was undertaken (1) to determine the adequacy of the ways in which tolerance and respect for minority groups are addressed and fostered, (2) to identify areas where changes are required, and (3) to recommend follow-up action. Except for the validation process, the audit procedure for this phase was similar to that of the first phase. The summary of reviewed material describes how the 2,155 materials audited were assembled for evaluation. Noting that 96% of the materials evaluated were acceptable, the results section discusses the reporting procedure, validity process, and general findings and provides tables displaying audit results. The next section summarizes results by discussing the nature of resources found within each curriclum subject area and by discussing specific material found unacceptable or problematic. In the recommendations section it is pointed out that the findings from part 1 are similar to findings from part 2, and that recommendations from both parts should be considered together. Recommendations include 10 short follow-up actions, and rationale and reference to recommendations made from the first stage are given in each case. Appendices include a listing of prescribed, recommended and supplementary resources titles, resources omitted from audit, resources rated problematic or unacceptable, and the Alberta Heritage Fund Learning Resources.
