520 |a Dealing with the issue of a changing society and recognizing that teacher education has remained basically unchanged for 100 years, the faculty of the Winthrop College School of Education agreed to take the risk involved with transforming the teacher education curriculum. Three interdisciplinary teams have identified curriculum to be taught to students during their freshman, junior and senior years. In order to ease future curriculum revision, the core courses will be team taught by interdisciplinary faculty teams. Inspired by the model set forth by Peters and Waterman ("In Search of Excellence", New York: Warner Books 1984), this particular strategy provides an element of stability to the content being taught yet provides for fluidity of content. Another strength in this approach is that faculty teams feel a sense of competition in their teaching to the group and also have a sense of entrepreneurship. They are in control of the allocation of time, content coverage and change to a greater degree than previously permitted in the course-by-course time frame. (Author)
