In addition to learning theories that are presented in order to help learners understand various types of problems and research related to problem-solving and decision-making strategies, the paper includes several paradigms that adult learners have found helpful in improving their problem analysis, solution generation, and decision-making skills. Techniques discussed include general problem-solving strategies, structured problems, ill-structured problems, exercises in defining and analyzing problems, idea-generating techniques, techniques for making better choices, techniques for identifying implementation blocks, and observations about the roles of reason and intuition in problem solving. An appendix to the report contains problem-solving and decision-making techniques and related learning activities. (KC) | ||
