Summary: | This report evaluates the third year of the Appalachian Adolescent Health Education Project (AAHEP), a program designed to reduce adolescent pregnancy rates and provide care for pregnant teenagers in East Tennessee. The report notes that the project's scope changed from a 15-county region to a concentration of efforts in 3 target counties for the care component and 7 target high schools in 2 additional counties for the prevention component, with the additional 10 counties receiving less service. Evaluation design and project focus changes are also reported: federally-requested hypotheses replaced AAHEP goals and objectives as project guides and three control counties were added for comparison data. The report includes the new hypotheses, context information, a plan for the next year, care component results, prevention results and sections on management and general comments, issues, and discussion, progress information, dissemination, and conclusions. The report concludes that AAHEP has succeeded in meeting its care and prevention goals and that its services appear to have reduced the incidence of adolescent births in the target counties. Six tables, six figures, and three appendices are included. (ABB) |
