| 520 | |a This paper presents a new research instrument, The Lifetime Creativity Scales (LCS), along with validation evidence based on two large and independent samples. Views on creativity are discussed, the background of the LCS is reviewed, and the LCS are briefly described. The seven scales--three measuring peak creativity, three measuring extent of creative involvement, and one summarizing overall creativity--are explained. The data base and data preparation for the validation studies, all involving subjects from Danish adoption studies, are presented. A summary of descriptive and validation data includes sections on interrater reliability, descriptive statistics and interrelationships, and validity. The LCS are described as providing broad-based assessment of innovative activity at work and leisure, without the requirement that activities be socially recognized or limited to particular fields of endeavor, and as allowing for study of real-life creativity in general populations. It is noted that the scales show high interrater reliability and multiple indications of construct validity. Findings with the validation samples are presented which raise interesting questions involving the relationship between vocational and avocational creativity, and equality of vocational opportunity for men and women.
