Summary:The collective bargaining agreement between the Rhode Island Board of Governors and the University of Rhode Island Chapter of the American Association of University Professors (AAUP) covering the period July 1, 1985-June 30, 1987 is presented. Items covered in the agreement are: unit recognition, management rights, nondiscrimination, the university manual, consultation with president and commissioner, membership lists, academic freedom, selection of deans, search, screening, and appointment of department heads, annual review and appointment renewal for department heads, relinquishment of position of department head for other duties, removal of department head, the selection and appointment of faculty members, workload, salaries, disability and life insurance, retirement program, tuition benefits, the annual review, process of department peer evaluation, promotion process, nonrenewal, statement of principles of tenure, eligibility for tenure, tenure process, dismissal under tenure, leaves, outside consultation, retrenchment, grievance procedure, dues deduction, alteration of agreement, no strikes or lockouts, and savings clause. Appended is information on: 1985-1986 and 1986-1987 salaries by rank, exceptional salary increases, 1986 and 1987 summer session assignments and compensation, limited full-time faculty, and overload teaching assignments in the College of Continuing Education.
