520 | |a Achieving enrollment goals continues to be a major administrative concern in higher education. Enrollment management can be assisted through the use of computerized planning and forecast models. Although commercially available Markov transition type curve fitting models have been developed and used, a microcomputer-based decision planning model designed by Ghosh in the early 1980s has proved to be an excellent tool in attaining the annual enrollment goals over a multi-year planning period. The Ghosh Model was used at Grambling State University in Louisiana. A 10-year projection was produced by conducting trend analysis and use of casual model. Enrollment mandates prompted Grambling State University to adopt innovative recruitment strategies. By the fall of 1985 Grambling State University increased its enrollment by 42.5% over a 5-year period by reversing the steady decline it experienced between 1975 and 1980. This success was possible by approaching enrollment planning through strategic decisions and use of the Ghosh model. (ABL) | ||
