Summary: | This pack of materials is designed to help students working to improve their basic skills as part of their catering course. It consists of six sections: oral communication, reading, writing, communication without words, application of number, and information technology. The individual sections of the pack are divided into task sheets and fact sheets. Each main section has a self-assessment questionnaire that the student should complete and the course tutor or basic skills specialist should check. The materials can be used by students involved in open/flexible, group, or distance learning. The material relates to specified National Vocational Qualifications Core Skills Units and Adult Literacy and Basic Skills Unit Basic Skills Standards. Fact sheets give information and teaching material useful for students working toward the units and elements of competence detailed in a "tag." In some cases, this material focuses on the underpinning knowledge and understanding required for the unit.
