The investigator felt (1) that dictionaries and grammatical statements can profitably be designed as part of a unified program of language description and (2) that dictionaries should direct particular attention to class cleavage, and important factor in understanding the grammatical structure of a language which can seldom be adequately treated in a grammatical statement.
