Summary: | Designed specifically for use in the Muskingum Area Joint Vocational School in Zanesville, Ohio, this high school course of study in child care services is presented as an example of an application of the instructional systems design (ISD) process. Introductory material in the guide includes general notes on the Zanesville setting, school philosophy, and list of facilities, equipment, and supplies for the program, which operates two sessions of nursery school for preschool children providing all students with laboratory experience in the preschool in addition to field experience in Zanesville city school classrooms for the senior students. In the body of the guide general instructional goals for the two-year program are stated, followed by the list of the 190 major instructional tasks to be accomplished by students. Tasks are then grouped and sequenced together for instructional purposes, and organizational strategies are discussed, e.g., laboratory organization and rotation, and coordination of laboratory job stations with individualized related class. Outlines for laboratory activities are broken down into task statements, each with parallel lists of materials/supplies, and safety notes. Outlines for related class instruction separate concepts into technical content and parallel math and science concepts. Guidelines for laboratory and class grading include evaluation criteria and performance charts for both the junior and senior program. A bibliography is appended. (JT) |
