Description
Summary:In developing secondary level curriculum materials for the hospitality and recreation occupational cluster the following procedures were followed. An advisory panel was established and utilized to review preliminary plans, the draft materials, and the final curriculum. The hospitality and recreation cluster was analyzed to define its internal nature (i.e., its industries, occupations, and employers) and to develop its subclusters, e.g. travel and lodging. Information on current and projected employment was collected and examined to guide curriculum development decision making and current educational programs, curricula, and strategies were examined to avoid duplication of effort. After student outcomes, major concepts, the nature of student activities, and implementation strategies were decided upon, specific objectives, content outlines, and instructional methodologies were determined and the draft curriculum packages were designed and developed. Materials were then introduced to educators and industry representatives at a national conference to solicit feedback and develop a dissemination base. Based on field tests in three different states, materials were revised before printing and distribution. Appendixes contain field test materials including student tests for the exploration curricula and skill training curricula in four areas: loding, travel, recreation, and sports, entertainment, and cultural services.
