A mutual-causal, relational paradigm tested the nature of interpersonal solidarity in dyads consisting of acquaintances, co-workers, family members, and friends. Results of both studies replicated recent research, indicating that different communication contexts can be predicted from relational perceptions, and solidarity was found to be higher for the two closer contexts surrounding friends and family members. Moreover, the measurement of interpersonal solidarity in dyadic relationships is sufficiently reliable and valid across contexts for the classification and prediction of relational communication behaviors.
