| Summary: | This paper reports the results of a study on the role of the caseworker in the use of foster care for elderly clients. Data is drawn from 100 interviews with foster home caretakers in two major state-sponsored adult foster care programs. Findings indicate that caseworkers had not been active in the recruitment of foster home caretakers. Caretakers rarely took part in the selection of their residents. Caseworker pre-placement and follow-up visits were viewed as very important when they occurred. The data indicate the caretakers' composite picture of the ideal caseworker: one who would give a clear picture of the prospective resident, would follow up placements and would be readily available when problems arose.
