Methods and materials take account of real-life situations and situations significant to young people. The learning of Spanish through "fine arts" is discussed, that is, learning the language by using the arts, particularly theater, as a means of communication. This approach is consistent with the student-centered philosophy of the school. Three types of learning situations are presented: dramatic reading of literary texts, theatrical presentations, and other art forms that meet student needs and interests. Each of these sections contains photographs and an evaluation of the activity. The appendix contains copies of a student evaluation form, a contract, a student "self-direction" form, and sample assignment sheets on a play, role playing, poetry recall and Spanish Masters.
