| 520 | |a During the academic year 1977-78 a questionnaire was mailed to 937 University of California at San Diego (UCSD) alumni who graduated in 1975-76; responses were received from 35 percent. There is no profile of the typical alumnus, but certain types of groups act more favorably toward UCSD than others. Students entering as freshmen were more likely to be satisfied with their educational experience than transfers; similarly, students with high grade point averages showed most satisfaction. About half of the respondents had chosen to pursue an advanced degree or credential. Alumni who chose their major with a possible career in mind were generally more satisfied with UCSD than their non-career major counterparts. About 30 percent said that knowing what they do now they would have chosen another school. In general, career matters were of considerable concern to the alumni. Only 43 percent were currently employed full-time, and 60 percent of those felt their jobs had real or possible career potential. Starting salaries averaged $835 per month, with physical sciences majors paid the most and humanities/letters majors paid the least.
