520 |a The study looked at the adult attainments of 91 children with learning disabilities who received remedial education in a private school for an average of 3 years between the ages 6 and 13. Methodology included questionnaires, interviews, and psychological testing. Approximately 60% were employed, 16% were in college. Major occupations were clerical (33%), unskilled (23%), professional (13%). Fifteen percent were married. Approximately 55% were independent of parental supervision. A very low incidence (6%) of delinquency and adult offenses was found. (Sixty-nine percent graduated high school; 15% completed public school educable mentally handicapped programs. Thirty-six percent completed college; 8% completed or are pursuing graduate study. Adult testing showed an increase of IQ scores relative to the Ss' population mean. Wechsler Adult Intelligence Scale mean IQs were all in the average range. Mean reading, spelling, and arithmetic scores ranked in that order. Reading and spelling scores were related to discrepancies between Verbal and Performance IQ. Personality test findings suggested vulnerability to stress. (Auhtor/SBH)
