Description
Summary:This guide is a comprehensive listing of institutions that honor or grant credit or placement through the College Board's Advanced Placement Program (AP) or College-Level Examination Program (CLEP). Included also are colleges' policies regarding the use of the Test of Standard Written English (TSWE) and the Achievement Tests for placement purposes only. The policy information reported here was received from 1,541 colleges in response to a questionnaire mailed to each eligible institution in January, 1978. The categories under which information is given are: (1) Advanced Placement Program; (2) College-Level Examination Program; (3) Admissions Testing Program (Test of Standard Written English and Achievement Tests); (4) sophomore standing; (5) transfer students; (6) maximum credit by examination; (7) additional information; and (8) office handling correspondence. Colleges were asked to distinguish between their use of these examination for placement and for credit, and to note whether the placement or credit was offered routinely or only under additional circumstances, such as a favorable review by an academic department. The guide was developed to give college applicants, counselors, college administrators, and test developers a representative opinion with respect to educational standards. Indexes are provided.
