520 |a The effectiveness of the state of Maryland's Community Home Care Services (CHCS) program was evaluated in this study. The CHCS's major goal is to enable persons 65 and over and their spouses (regardless of age) to remain in their own homes or in other independent living arrangements, consistent with their desires, ability and safety; or to assist them to attain appropriate alternate living arrangements as needed. Since available resources did not permit a rigorous experimental design, data was gathered primarily from a survey of case records conducted by CHCS workers. Thus the perceptions of the workers constituted a major input to the evaluation process. Data were gathered regarding socio-demographic factors, client risk factors, and patterns of service provision. In general, the program was found to be offering clients appropriate services which respond to their needs and ameliorate their problems to some degree. Recommendations are offered for each major finding. (Author/BP)
