Summary: | The Newark Audio Instruction Project determined and evaluated the cost benefits and efficiency factors in using FM main channel and subchannel, the school intercom system, and audio cassettes for delivery of instructional programming for grades K-9, and developed a master plan for integrating radio/audio instruction into the curriculum. A preproject assessment, administered to a sample of 570 teachers in schools selected by the radio supervisor and the executive superintendent of schools, revealed that teachers were using main channel radio as the primary delivery system significantly more than cassette or intercom. In a post project assessment questionnaire administered after three months of involvement, attitudes towards the various delivery systems, levels of utilization, and modes of utilization, were evaluated. It was found that cassettes received the highest rating from teachers in terms of flexibility, efficiency, individualization, student reaction, ease of use and storage, and satisfaction on the part of the teacher. Questionnaire forms and tabulated results are included. Appendices include the original project proposal and related information about implementation, including equipment evaluation. (JEG) |
