Description
Summary:Proceedings and recommendations of the Rhode Island Arts Education Planning Institute are reported. The conference involved 127 participants including educators, artists, and personnel from arts organizations. A brief summary of the presentations of model programs includes exploration in sound, photography, and publication in the high school, a project for building social skills through art and video, an arts program for minorities, and an elementary program for learning to read through the arts. The summary of the keynote address outlines steps for the planning process: determining goals, target population, and calendar, and considering issues, factors, and questions of procedure. Reports from the planning groups for the elementary, middle/junior high, senior high, gifted/talented, and handicapped populations consider goals, objectives, needs, program development, resources, support, and planning. Appendices include suggestions for planning in local school districts, handicapped and gifted/talented group reports, suggestions for planning integrated arts in education projects, and the agenda of the conference.
