Summary: | This study examines the experiences of four local educators who served as information consultants linking their clients with online bibliographic retrieval services. Four educators in different positions and settings, but in the same geographical area remote from Toronto, were trained to link their local clients with the Educational Information Center for Ontario (EISO), a centralized, online bibliographical retrieval service. A study was conducted that described the actual and ideal linkage roles, the effect of these roles on the satisfaction of clients with the information service, the conceptualization of the role in the literature compared with its implementation in the field, and the implications of the findings for the dissemination of educational knowledge. Procedures for collecting data included on-site observation, interviews, and satisfaction surveys. Analytical treatments included both qualitative and quantitative techniques. Findings included the documentation of four distinct linkage profiles--Librarian, Field Service Officer, Professor, and Coordinator. An 8-item bibliography is attached. (Author/RAA) |
