Summary: | This pamphlet on parliamentary procedure is the fifteenth of 16 in a series to provide leaders in adult activities with sound introductory material to give practical help in using a method of adult education or working in a particular area. Its objective is to help organizational leaders use parliamentary procedure to further the educative process and have better meetings. Seven articles and how-tos are included. "Move Over, Mr. Robert" challenges the formality inherent in "Robert's Rule of Order" in light of recent knowledge on group behavior. This article is followed by "General Robert Replies.""The Uses and Abuses of Parliamentary Procedure" discusses the seven cardinal sins and the seven cardinal virtues of parliamentary procedure. The role and responsibility of the chairman are considered in the next two articles, "The Chair Recognizes" and "The Role of the Chairman." Parliamentary law, its applications, and its basic principles are described in "The Law and Parliamentary Procedure." The final article, "Putting Parliamentary Procedure to Work," overviews parliamentary procedure in action. (YLB) |
