| 520 | |a A Delphi study was conducted among personnel of the Oklahoma Research Coordinating Unit (RCU) to determine their priorities for long-term research in vocational education. Staff in Supportive Services were grouped together, while staff in the Occupational Division, Area Schools Division, Training for Industry Programs Section, and Productivity section made up another group called "Educational Services" since they have a more direct relationship with supervision of local programs. Each group of administrators was asked to list 10 concerns related to the improvement of vocational education programs that they felt should be analyzed by the RCU within the next 5 years. These lists were then compiled into questionnaires that were sent to the two groups, with instructions to rank each item on a scale of 1 to 10. As expected, the concerns of the Supportive Services Divisions differed from those of the Educational Services Divisions both in scope and priority. The Supportive Services Divisions were more concerned with the attitudes of students, industry, and the general public toward vocational education. One exception was the need for identifying new and emerging technologies, practices, and programs appropriate to vocational and technical training, which was the number one priority for both groups. Other areas included in the top 10 for both groups were determining the effectiveness of the program evaluation system, and using computers as teaching devices. The RCU now must decide whether to tackle the top priorities of each group, an area of lower priority that is a concern of both divisions, or a top priority that is vital to the functioning of a subdivision.
