| Summary: | Evaluating university residence hall environments at the beginning of the academic year can be valuable for determining environmental strengths and weaknesses and for making appropriate changes to enhance the environment. To evaluate the residence hall environment at Indiana University at Bloomington, a sample of students living in residence halls (N=713) completed questionnaires and identified five items they felt strongly about, either positively or negatively. Statistical analyses revealed that: (1) residence hall personnel were perceived positively; (2) student government was viewed fairly positively; (3) residence hall programs were seen both positively and negatively, with recreational and social programming viewed the most positively, and academic programming (guest speakers, student faculty interaction, cultural programs) viewed somewhat negatively; (4) study conditions were seen as less than optimal; and (5) access to residence hall and university information was viewed positively.
