Definitions of access, selectivity, assessment, evaluation, success, standards, excellence, student potential, and self-concept are presented in chapter II. Chapter III explores indicators of access and selectivity, focusing on institutional statements of philosophy, mission, and objectives; geography and delivery systems; curricula; student services; faculty; costs; and students. The prognosis for the changing dominance of access and selectivity is discussed in chapter IV, along with views concerning action needed for revitalizing the community college.
