Subjects, 113 Black state legislators, 80 Black mayors, and 359 Black school board members, responded to questionnaires by mail that measured respondent views on performance of "the major White-owned newspaper" in the community. The sample represented a low response rate in relation to the number of questionnaires sent out. Findings indicated that (1) BEOs "have no use" for the White press; and (2) they find press coverage of the Black community to be insensitive, incomplete, and inappropriate.
