520 |a This curriculum guide provides the framework for the Academic Internship Program (AIP) that is available to Charlotte-Mecklenburg (North Carolina) Public Schools' high school students. In each career area, information is provided to describe the purpose of the internship, the qualifications for the intern, the content/scope and competency goals for the internship, and vocabulary applicable to the internship. A preliminary section describes the three types of development that occur in a successful internship, the procedures used in developing internships, and the benefits of the AIP. Internship placement areas include accounting, advertising and public relations, art, architecture, banking, child development, computer services, dentistry, engineering, fashion merchandising, government, interior design, investment banking, journalism, laboratory technology, law, nursing, pharmacy, photograpy, physical therapy, physician, radio-television, radiology and emergency medical services, respiratory therapy, and veterinary medicine. Examples of how various community sponsors have scheduled their student interns are appended. (SI)
