Section 2 reviews the literature on participation and motivation in adult education and highlights findings relative to vocational education and training. Section 3 concentrates on two studies in providing the most recent generalizable information on demographics affecting participation, especially in vocational education and training. Section 4 addresses barriers to participation in education and training. It covers types of barriers, problems while participating, and alleviating barriers to participation.
