Summary: | This handbook provides suggestions useful in implementing supplemental services to children with handicaps in regular classrooms in Ohio. The information is organized into two major parts: administrative considerations and teacher considerations. Administrative considerations focus on the definition of a supplemental services program, determining the need for supplemental services, number of students that can be served, involvement of the supplemental services teacher in the individualized education program process and in program review and evaluation, and impact of the multifactored evaluation. Teacher considerations include: use of students' cumulative record files; the multifactored evaluation; use of observation to identify student needs; selection of appropriate materials and equipment; cooperation with the regular education teacher; necessary classroom or school modifications; support resources and services available; and communication with other personnel. Appendices contain a list of Ohio special education regional resource centers and a description of their services; sample annual goals, instructional objectives, evaluation procedures, and criteria; required assessment areas for multifactored evaluation; program review guidelines; and test construction and test taking guidelines.
