Description
Summary:A study was undertaken to compare the effectiveness of two methods for delivering refresher training to Air Crews: conventional classroom and self-study. The self-study technique consisted of: (1) a comprehensive series of multiple choice questions covering the subject matter, with each question bearing reference to the page and paragraph of a manual containing the detailed information on which the questions were based; (2) a punchboard from which students could immediately determine whether their answers were correct or incorrect; and (3) a manual to which students could refer for information when they chose an incorrect answer. Conclusions were: (1) the preparation and administration of self-study techniques are entirely within the capability of an operational squadron with only a minimum of guidance; (2) in the operational setting, the self-study technique is superior to the conventional classroom method for delivering refresher training; and (3) students favor the self-study method for refresher training.
