| Summary: | The schooling/learning process is a two-way street -- that is, teachers as well as students can learn important lessons about class values and acculturation. This study focuses upon that process where by middle-class teachers are significantly influenced by their lower-class students. The results dramatize two important changes--the acceptance of violence as a practiced means of conflict resolution and an increasing tolerance of obscene language. This study challenges some basic assumptions about the nature of schooling and the effectiveness of education as an instrument of social change. (Authors) |
